Karin Häll works with sculpture, drawing and installations. Her starting point is often words or events that she has been inspired by in literature and which she then links to habitual behaviors and social phenomena around us. Häll is interested in the individual’s experience of the self: the constant change of identity in relation to the signals and tendencies of the outside world, the social codes and contexts. The works often have multiple backgrounds. Häll consistently uses the shifting meanings of materials: their value and function in relation to different objects and objects. Subtle placements charge the space and give recognizable situations underlying meanings. Karin Häll was educated at Konstfack, Department of Fine Arts/Sculpture, MFA and at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm. Her work has been shown at several galleries and art centers in Sweden and abroad. In recent years, these include Aguelimuseet, Passagen, Linköpings Konsthall, Konst i Ån, Norrtälje Konsthall, Alma Löv Museum, Hilbert Raum, Berlin, Katarina Kyrka, Stockholm, Galleri Huuto, Helsinki and others. Karin Häll is represented at, among others, the Drawing Museum in Laholm and has been awarded several scholarships and prizes.
